Personal Weather Stations (pws) are something I've been interested in for a few years. The biggest barrier so

far had been fairly steep prices. I wanted something that could register barometric pressure in actual

numbers (not just if it's rising or falling), humidity, wind speed/direction and rainfall. On top of that, I wanted

something that could hold the high and lows of the various parameters. Last month, I found what I'd been

looking for at a good price in my favorite catalog........Sportsman's Guide! The price was $89.00 and it did

everything I wanted and more! The station came with software to download the data from the base

station to your computer. The only thing I lacked was an RJ45 to USB adaptor....once I got that I was in

business. My goal is to stream the current weather data onto the main page of this site, I just don't know

how or if I can do it with my existing Yahoo account etc. Once I do that I also want to link a webcam to

my site so people can see the weather. In the meantime, I've included some links at the bottom that I've

found useful with regard to weather as a hobby or just to see if rain is going to ruin the picnic.

The weather station I'm using is a La Crosse Technology 2315 Weather Station. The base station has an LED display

that lights up every time you press any of the buttons. You can run the base station on battery or AC adaptor, and it

can be used either as a wireless receiver or you can plug it into the various sensors directly. The anemometer, rain

gauge and temp/humidity sensor all run on battery. The battery is supposed to work for about a year before needing

               replacement so we'll see.

On top of all the features of the base station, the whole set up came with software for your computer. You install

the program on your computer and hook the base station to your computer using the cable. The program automatically

retrieves the data from the base, then you can view everything as graphs, raw number etc. I'm still learning to use

               the program.
