My library. I guess the best way to describe it is.....eclectic. I have everything from "Green Eggs and Ham" to

"Bullfinchs Mythology". I give two individuals and one small group of people credit for my love of reading and my reading

comprehension. The two people who most influenced my love of reading would be my mother and father. Both of

them read all of the time. My mother leaned more towards novels and some cooking/sewing/crochet instruction books.

My father tended to read historic fiction and things related to the pursuit of his Doctorate Degree. Regardless, I saw

them reading a lot while I was growing up. I read "Bullfinch's' Mythology" when I was 11 years old. In case you're

not familiar, it's a collection of myths such as Greek and Roman Mythology, the legends of King Arthur and legends

of Charlemagne. It's 955 pages long and written in the early 1900's. That was my first introduction to Greek and

Roman myths and more information on King Arthur than I had before reading the book. Those myths and stories led

me down the path to what eventually evolved into a "less than mainstream" philosophy on life. That's a story for

        (maybe) another time.

The second influence on my reading was, oddly enough, two nuns during the years I went to Catholic school. Catholic

Schools stressed the fundamentals or reading. We had a list of spelling words to memorize every week, but we didn't

just learn to parrot back the words. We also had to take each word and use it in a sentence. They also taught us using

"phonics" but it was light years from "Hooked on Phonics" kids can do today. We learned the phonetic was of saying the word,

but also learned the "why" as in what rule made the spelling the way it was....because we were expected to both be able

to pronounce the word and spell it correctly. So, wherever you are now, thanks a lot Sister Annette and Sister Solana!

Sister Solana was in her 60's or 70's so I think I know where she is right now. Sister Annette may still be around though.

As time goes by, I'll do more work on this section but for now I'm not sure exactly what form it's going to take. It may take

form of reviews or synopses of some of my favorite books. If you're still here after getting this deep into my webpage, I

think you may like some of the books I have.
